A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
