The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."

"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."

Show History

The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the new season will premiere.

The conclusion of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
