Los Angeles Experiences Historic Heat Just Days After Severe Winter Storm.
In the wake of significant rainfall that caused flooding across parts of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally hot conditions for this time of year.
Record-Setting Temperatures
On Friday midday, the thermometer climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by meteorologists. This exceeds the old record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set just last year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on official maps for the region.
Public Health Warnings
The weather service issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance featured:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Never leaving children or pets unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Reversal
This sharp rise in heat comes on the heels of a massive winter storm that battered the area earlier in the week. That system delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, triggering flash flood warnings for many residents.
Unfortunately, the storm also resulted in a massive avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.
Weekend Outlook
Looking ahead cooler conditions is coming. Temperatures were forecast to fall to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that experienced 90°F featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to see the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, central LA can anticipate weather in the 80s, with a further cooldown on tap for the following week.
