Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
