Salah Issues Statement to Liverpool Dressing Room, Says Curtis Jones
The Liverpool midfielder has revealed that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the team after the fallout from his televised remarks.
The Incident
The striker was dropped from a key Champions League match following making accusations and claiming his connection to the head coach had soured.
“Salah is an individual and he can say his own stuff,” Jones revealed. “He said sorry to the group and was like: ‘If my words hurt anyone, I apologise.’”
The head coach has chosen not to disclose on whether he received a personal apology from the 33-year-old forward.
Team Unity
He emphasized that the dressing room atmosphere remained positive. “He was the exact same Mo, his demeanour was positive and it was business as usual,” the midfielder explained.
Jones also suggested that a competitor wanting to play is preferable. “I understand there are specific approaches you can express yourself,” he said. “Yet, should someone be happy to just be on the bench, then I think that’s more of an issue.”
On-Field Response
Liverpool's form have been impressive in the games following the interview fallout. He feels the forward's comments were not designed to harm the team.
“If passion has boiled over, it’s always been from a place of caring,” he finished. “We’re past that now and we’re gelling well as a team, playing well and starting to win games.”
