The Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first championship series since 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now slugged 23 playoff homers, making him third in history after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I want up in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he continued.
Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
