The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, each with their own anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while other scenes show the protagonist exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have large blooms where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one remaining could be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
